L’immunothérapie contre le cancer consiste à activer le système immunitaire du patient afin qu’il puisse se défendre et détruire les cellules cancéreuses. Depuis quelques années, l’immunothérapie est utilisée en première ligne pour traiter différents cancers car elle permet d’obtenir une réponse anti-tumorale durable et efficace dans une proportion importante de patients.
Afin d’augmenter l’efficacité et la spécificité des traitements immunothérapeutiques, notre équipe tente d’identifier des marqueurs présents à la surface des cellules tumorales et qui pourraient être la cible de lymphocytes T « tueurs » de tumeurs. Nous étudions comment et dans quelles conditions ces marqueurs tumoraux sont produits par le protéasome, un complexe enzymatique impliqué dans la dégradation des protéines cellulaires. Nous espérons que nos recherches conduiront à la production de vaccins contre le cancer qui aideront les patients cancéreux à combattre leur tumeur.

Cancer immunotherapy consists in activating the patient's immune system to destroy cancer cells. In recent years, immunotherapy has been used as a first-line treatment for various cancers because it allows a durable and effective anti-tumor responses in a significant proportion of patients.
In order to increase the efficacy and specificity of immunotherapeutic treatments, our team is trying to identify markers that are present on the surface of tumor cells and could be the target of "killer" T cells involved in the destruction of tumors. We are also studying how and under what conditions these tumor markers are produced by the proteasome, a large enzymatic complex involved in the degradation of cellular proteins. We hope that our research will lead to the production of therapeutic cancer vaccines that will help cancer patients fighting their tumors.

Het de Duve Instituut is een multidisciplinair biomedisch onderzoeksinstituut, dat verschillende laboratoria van de Faculteit Geneeskunde van de UCLouvain (Université catholique de Louvain), evenals de Brusselse afdeling van het Ludwig Instituut voor Kankeronderzoek huisvest.
Het de Duve Instituut is gebaseerd op drie principes :
voorrang voor fundamenteel onderzoek en vrijheid voor de onderzoekers,
speciale aandacht voor potentieel medische voordelen als gevolg van fundamentele ontdekkingen,
multidisciplinaire samenwerking binnen een kritische massa van kennis, apparatuur en technieken.
Met het geld dat tijdens de crowdfundingcampagne wordt ingezameld, kan het Instituut ultramoderne apparatuur aanschaffen en beurzen voorzien om uitzonderlijke wetenschappers aantetrekken. Met uw donaties versnelt u het onderzoek.
